We are blessed to have the services of a professional choir at our Sunday High Mass and when Evensong and Benediction is offered. The Anglican choral tradition contains some of the most beautiful sacred music in the world and it is sung here in its original setting.
We are a fully professional choir of four Lay Clerks (Professional Singers) and four to six Choral Scholars (Developing Singers).
We perform music spanning a timescale of nearly 600 years, including premiering new Australian music on a regular basis, to Medieval music by Josquin and Machaut, and everything in between including music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods.
Our Choral Scholar Program is designed to develop young musicians into professional choral singers. We aim to fill the gap between the end of high school choir and the professional choral world. Our Lay Clerks act as mentors to our choral scholars, encouraging their vocal and musical development.
Our fantastic organ is serviced by Pierce Pipe Organs, and has 648 pipes in the Great, 480 in the Swell, and 60 in the Pedal, for a total of 1,188 pipes. It was originally built by T.C.Lewis & Co in 1873, but has had several rebuilds, notably one in 1957 in which 13 of the original 24 stops were changed. It is located in the loft with our musicians, from where it leads the congregation in hymn singing and accompanies the choir for our varied liturgical repertoire. This beautiful instrument is also the centrepiece for our Organ Recital Series, where renowned Organists from around Queensland come to perform.
Come and hear our choir and organ at one of our services or concerts and be transported through our Glorious Sacred repertory.
